Hypocrisy in Albemarle County? Slutzky campaign violates sign laws
In a flagrant and unequivocal election-day violation of the code of Virginia, Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Chairman, David Slutzky’s campaign has illegally placed “Slutzky for Supervisor†signs in the public right-of-way along Route 29 North in order to assist his re-election effort.
Virginia Code, section 33.1-373 states:
Any person who in any manner (i) paints, prints, [...]
Blowin’ in the wind: Albemarle County Zoning ignores “illegal” windmill
In the latest case of local zoning enforcement insanity, Mark Graham, Director of Albemarle County’s Department of Community Development, Amelia McCully, Albemarle County Zoning Administrator, and Sally Thomas, Albemarle County Board of Supervisors member, all acknowledge the existence of an illegal windmill in Albemarle County, but they refuse to address it. The stated reason? [...]
RSWA: Yes, we have no “flow control”
The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority’s (RSWA) ongoing attempts to crush private-sector competitor, Van der linde Recycling, get curiouser and curiouser by the moment. And all ventures to obtain clarification of the Authority’s ambitions leave us feeling as though we are “among mad people.”
After referencing the phrase, “flow control,” frequently and commonly during their 9/22/09 monthly [...]
Fed up with corruption, then “Dump RSWA”
We can’t claim the origination of this slogan (that happened on the Hook blog), but the execution is all ours. By popular demand, you can now fight back against the corrupt Rivanna Solid Waste Authority (RSWA) by showing your disdain for overbearing, manipulative and anti-competitive government.
If you’re sick and tired of RSWA’s Stalinist tactics in [...]
Mayor Norris(hood)’s $5000 “green” grocery bag fiasco
One would think Charlottesville City officials had not gotten word that the United States of America (and by extension, the City itself) is in a serious recession.
Perhaps Democratic Socialist Republic of Charlottesville Minister David Norris (Mayor) and Chairman Gary O’Connell (City Manager) were not tuned-in when President Barack Obama described our Nation’s current financial situation [...]

McIntire Recycling: How much it costs, nobody knows (but Peter van der Linde has a solution)
Multiple inquiries to the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority (RSWA), Charlottesville City, and Albemarle County yielded some interesting information about how much the public is paying to fund the McIntire Recycling Center’s operation: no one, at any of the entities knows!
In what appears to be a case verging on criminal negligence, the very authority that runs [...]
Guest Editorial: No, you can not
No, you can not
by Charles Battig, MD
In six short months, the inspiring campaign motto “Yes We Can†has been replaced by a pervasive “No, You Can Not!†attitude. How disappointed must be those who voted for believable change and a fresh start for our nation.
No, You Can Not: point to a new openness in government, [...]
